The Projector Metaphor by David Hoffmeister – “In the projector room, inside the projector, is this glowing, brilliant, radiant light. That’s a great metaphor for the Holy Spirit. That brilliant light seems to pass through the film, which is filled with a lot of dark images…” Q: When one cleans up the film, the projector only projects light… Correct? In that scenario, it would seem that form ceases to exist. According to what I am reading, the perception of form, any form at all, is an illusion, a dreamlike state that is not real. What happens to form during this cleaning up process? Does the world become more and more beautiful, or less positively/negatively charged, or what? I understand the shift from hearing another person’s attack to hearing a cry for love. It’s becoming a bit easier for me to hear that cry for love. A Course in Miracles has certain teachings that Jesus says will take a lot of willingness and a lot of determination, over what will seem like many years before it starts to come over the horizon and into your awareness. One of the concepts that Jesus talks about in ACIM is the unhealed healer. It's very tempting to pick up this book with all this great metaphysical wisdom and to start to assimilate it like you would as a human being and then say, "Hmm, okay, I got the goods now, I can heal." And then you’re looking around and trying to find somebody to heal, with all this new metaphysical wisdom that you've got. If we take a closer look at the many contemporary spiritualities, we would find that most have some notion of bringing the truth into the world. A very popular phrase that illustrates this would be, “let’s make heaven on earth.”  A Course in Miracles  does not teach this. In fact, it’s a fundamental metaphysical error according to its non-dual teachings. Our time for clarity is now—to learn the impossibility for Spirit to come into matter. We cannot mix two ideas that are completely incompatible with each other. God does not mix with the world, just like oil and water do not mix. Let’s try a thought experiment: Think about a particular form in your mind. Then, turn your attention to God or Spirit. The contrast is clear, form is concretized and the Spirit is abstract. These two ideas have no resonance with each other. One is a distortion of the light: fragmented, slow, darkened, reduced, limited, and no longer free to expand. The other is a Pure idea. Love would hold onto nothing.

In the Bible, back in the Songs of David… a lot of people are familiar with the 23rd song.  It is a very famous song … “The Lord is my shepherd.  I shall not want…” and then it goes on in a very beautiful passage that my grandmother used to repeat over and over from memory.  I shall not want.  What does that really mean?  What I would say is that, ultimately, whenever you want anything from the world, the world will want something from you.  And this gets acted out.  When you want something that you do not believe you already have, then that is the belief in lack as it says in A Course in Miracles.
